State
Officials in New Jersey to Repeal Doctors License for Prescribing
to Addicts
According to an article on Newsday.com, State officials in New
Jersey repeal a doctors' license for over prescribing painkillers
and other drugs to patients who have had backgrounds of drug abuse.
The Board of Medical Examiners revoked the license of Hector B.
Corral. His license had been suspended in December after the Attorney
General's office said he prescribed OxyContin, Percodan, Valium
and other drugs to patients with severe histories of substance abuse
without appropriately assessing them first.
Corral, who lives in New York, and has a license to practice medicine
there as well, returned his license to New Jersey Officials two
months ago. " They can keep it (the license). Nothing has been proved,
and I will not practice in New Jersey, that's for sure" Corral told
the Star Ledger of Newark.
It has been stated that Corral has no formal pain management credentials
and was not board certified in any field of medicine. He has declined
to address any of the charges that were brought against him. Corral
was ordered to pay state investigation fines, as well as civil penalties.
Due to the New Jersey ruling against the doctor, New York officials
may also look into revoking his license.
